Vehicle Incident Investigation Team VIIT:

Incidents involving commercial vehicles are complex due to the type of cargo they are hauling, location, who or what is involved, how many vehicles, pedestrians, etc. Due to the complexity of commercial vehicle incidents, ATS uses a unique team approach to investigating all incidents. All investigations are conducted by our certified Collision Analyst/Reconstructionist, Safety Officers, Heavy Duty Mechanic, and our Certified Technician/Analyst to download your vehicle data recorder. This combination of professionals recreates the incident, gather data, analyze, and provide independent conclusions and recommendations, at ATS we do not assign blame, we provide solutions to reduce and prevent future incidents from re-occurring.

ATS works in conjunction with Transport Canada, Police agencies and other investigative agencies to gather data. ATS does not share information unless otherwise required to do so by law.

Types of Incidents Investigated by ATS include:

  • Warehouse Equipment
  • ATVs
  • Heavy Equipment (Dump Trucks, Skid steers, Loaders, Lifts, etc.)
  • Heavy Vehicles (e.g., Semis)
  • Buses, Private Charters
  • Agriculture Equipment
  • Limousines, Taxi’s, Uber, Ride Shares
  • Standard motor vehicles including cars, trucks (½, ¾, 1 tons), MPV (mini-van, SUV), etc.
  • Any industry with motorized equipment

We offer two different options when it comes to vehicle incidents investigations

  • Vehicle Incident Team (With service agreement)
  • Vehicle Incident Team (Without service agreement)

These investigations are conducted and supported by our Safety Officers, Collision Analyst/ Reconstructionist and our independent Heavy-Duty Mechanic, including but not limited to the download of your vehicles Heavy Vehicle Engine Modular Recorder (HVEMR).

CDR/HVEMR & Mechanical Inspection Reports
  1. Service Call Outs between 0600 – 1759 (6:00 AM and 5:59 PM) Monday to Friday are subject to standard rates.
  2. All call outs are subject to a minimum 4 hr charge/person. Minimum 2 ppl per call out.
  3. Fees apply once ATS receives your phone call, whether it is an inquiry regarding a new or existing incident, or if your organization is requesting ATS to attend and incident. (fees do not apply to program inquiries)
  4. If additional team members are required due to the severity of an incident, each additional team member will be charged a minimum of 4 hrs/person. Plus, the cost of any materials, specialized equipment required during the investigation, including but not limited to photocopying, creation of booklets, additional photographs (if applicable), etc.
  5. Vehicle Heavy Equipment Modular Recorders (HEMDR) or Collision Data Recorders (CDR) are NOT If you wish to have the HEVMR or CDR downloaded and interpreted, please contact ATS for cost details.
  6. Vehicle Safety Inspections are NOT Please contact ATS for details if you are interested in this program.
  7. Service Call Outs between the hours of 1800 – 0559 (6:00 PM and 5:59 PM) Monday to Friday, 24 hours per day Saturday and Sunday, Statutory Holidays, Remembrance Day and Christmas Eve, and all Alberta Provincial Holidays are subject to the following:

A minimum charge of 4 hr/person. Minimum 2 ppl per call out. After hour call outs will be charged time and a half, Statutory Holiday call outs will be charged double time. All calls are subject to standard call out procedures.

All fees are subject to GST

  1. Individuals or Companies with a Service Agreements that require service between the hours of 0600 – 1759 (6:00 AM and 5:59 PM) Monday to Friday will be subject to modified Standard fees.
  2. Monthly fee. Your Monthly fee includes phone call inquiries/questions 24/7, up to a maximum of 10 hours per month. Hours cannot be carried over month to month if they are not used.
  3. All Call Outs are subject to a minimum fee of 4 hr/person. Minimum 2 ppl per call out.
  4. Contract clients 10 hours per month can be used for phone calls, inquiries, or call outs. If a call out is required or requested then any hours not used in the 10 hrs allocated each month will be used first, if additional hours are required then ATS will charge accordingly.
  5. All contract clients will receive 2 vehicle safety inspections per month. (This is mandatory). This includes Heavy equipment, ½, ¾, 1 ton, etc. If you wish to have additional vehicles inspected, contact ATS for more information.
  6. If additional ATS labour is required Monday – Friday between 0600 (6:00 AM) and 1759 (5:59 PM) – WEEKDAYS ONLY to attend an incident each Team Member will be charged out at Modified Standard rates, and subject to the following, Minimum 2 ppl per call out, minimum 4 hrs/person/call out.
  7. Service Call Outs between 1800 – 0559, Monday – Friday, and 24 hrs per day on Weekends and Statutory Holidays, including Remembrance Day and Christmas Eve, and all Alberta Provincial Holidays are subject to the following:

Third party requests for Mechanical Inspection Reports or requests to conduct a mechanical inspection – Vehicles involved in serious incidents will be subject to additional costs. These costs will include but are not limited to the use of welders, or if specialized tools or equipment required to complete the inspection.
